Taylor Elementary School operates on a modified year-round calendar, the only school in the District with such a schedule. At Taylor, adults focus on the positive, respecting and encouraging students honestly and consistently; students are expected to plan, organize, and complete tasks with pride, uninhibited by fear of failure; parents and other adults participate in the education process; and the typical school schedule is supported by extended-day and extended-year programming.
A number of co-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities are offered for students at Taylor Elementary. These include, Tiger Academy, Science Center, Spanish Club, Destination Imagination and Taylor Book Club.
Taylor Elementary School has a number of partnerships throughout the community, including Matthew 25 Ministries, the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Roughriders, Intermec, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Matthew 25 provides Taylor with Book Buddies, which provides specifically trained adult tutors who meet twice each week with selected first graders throughout the school year. Music Mentoring provides instruments and teachers for individual music lessons on Saturday mornings. The Kernels and Roughriders provide facility tours and game visits; help with maintaining Taylor sports field, as well as, school visits and presentations by players.
Taylor Elementary School opened its doors in 1973.
