The Knitting Club
The Knitting Club meets on Mondays and Wednesdays with Miss Parsons and Mrs. McLaughlin for one hour after school. In the fall, we had 24 students in our club. We had students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The students learn to knit on knitting looms and crochet. Some of the projects that the students have made are hats, headbands, a stuffed cat, a unicorn headband, loom flowers, and mini baby blankets. Last year, we even had a student learn to knit on his fingers and made a butterfly. Once the students learn the basics, the project possibilities are endless. Our next 6 week session will focus on beginning crochet and making a stuffed teddy bear on the knitting loom. Knitting and crocheting can be very therapeutic and supports self-care which is one of the components of sustainability.
